I guess the route I'll be taking is Piteå - Östersund - Trondheim - Ålesund, and back again.

Anybody know what driving conditions are like between Trondheim - Ålesund..., are there a lot of hills and tunnels?
Ferries?
Do you pay to cross bridges in Norway (tull)?
Is it ok to use your Finnish Nokia mobile phone when driving? Is gas cheap (must be with all that oil, eh...)?

Any moose on the roads?

Do you have any raggare between Trondheim-Ålesund?

So what do you guys think`? worth looking inn to?

(FAQ) Some of them, just to give you an idea.

What type of game is Heroes & Generals?

Heroes & Generals is a Massive Online FPS with a Strategic Multiplayer Campaign, taking place in the European theater of war during WWII. ‘Heroes’ refer to the players engaged in the FPS-part of the game and ‘Generals’ refer to the players managing the resources and commanding Assault Teams (army units) in the Strategy-part of the game.

Can you tell more about the FPS (First Person Shooter) part of the game?

We call this the Action Game; this is where the ‘Heroes’ are doing the fighting on the ground and in the clouds. The Action Game is in all its aspects a full blown First Person Shooter, complete with intense infantry, vehicle and airplane combat in a wide variety of modes and missions. As your customizable character advances in rank, you might join a small squad of elite soldiers operating behind enemy lines, or fall-in with a larger section fighting an epic battle for a strategic bridgehead. We try to create an Arcade Shooter with realistic elements, such as weapons ballistics, advanced vehicle armor models, etc. It is very important to us, that our players enjoy the game, and we are therefore always open to suggestions from the community to help us make the the game YOU want to play! What makes our game different to most other Shooters is that every single mission fought in the Action Game, will be a part of one grand war reaching all over Europe. In the end, the ‘Heroes’ will be the deciding factor on who will win the war. The ‘Heroes’ will look to their ‘Generals’, to send them the needed reinforcement and supplies that they need, to win those strategic important battles!

Can you tell more about the Strategic Multiplayer Campaign?

The Campaign, as we call it, is the strategic part of Heroes & Generals. In the Campaign ‘Generals’ will control a number of Assault Teams (army units), fighting for either the US or the German faction, and move them around the campaign map in order to conquer cities, airfields, factories and other important strategic points. When two or more hostile Assault Teams attack each other, a mission is created in the mission list, and players from each side can join and play out that mission. The Assault Teams carries an amount of resources, which will be the ones available in the Action game, and all kills in the Action-game will be reflected in the Campaign. The ‘Generals’ can also add reinforcements to an ongoing battle, so your troops on the battlefield will get more resources.

What kind of resources are carried by an Assault Team?

The resources are by definition the number of spawns you have in an Action game.

For instance, if a German Infantry Assault Team (75men) engages a fight with an American Infantry Assault Team (75men) there will be 2 ways to conclude the Action Game.

1: Win by completing the maps objective i.e. defending if you is the one being attacked and vice versa.
2: Eliminate the enemy by killing all their troops. This means, that if e.g. the Americans kills 75 German soldiers, the German won’t have any soldiers to reinforce the Action Map with and the remaining Americans will be able to complete the Action Game’s objective without any enemies to fight. Also if you try to picture the above scenario, there could be instances of the Germans realizing they are being outgunned by the Americans, and would contact a General and ask for reinforcements. Here it will depend on the speed of the Generals to send the reinforcement, and how long the supply line is, if the reinforcement will make it in time before the Germans were eliminated.

If the German reinforcements do arrive in time, the picture could be completely turned as now the Germans could have 30 tanks and 60 more infantry, if the General had sent 2x Amour Assault Teams as reinforcements. In theory, one Action Game could last for hours, if the flow of reinforcements is steady on both sides and there is a stand-off on completing the Action Game’s objectives. This also makes the overall war a battle of attrition and this is also why there is no auto-balancing in the Action Game, since e.g. 5 vs. 10 actual players sitting by their computers could still win if they work well together, because in the end, it is still 75 vs. 75 men. Some other examples of Assault Teams:

An Amour Assault Team consists of 30 Infantry and 15 Tanks.

A Mechanized Infantry Assault Team consist of 55 Infantry and 6 APC’s (Armored Personal Carrier).Everyone will be able to command their own Assault Teams, once you have earned the funds to purchase them.

More on this topic later, as we progress in the development of the strategy game.

This is all subject to due change, as we progress further in the strategic game development.

What faction can I play?

At the moment you can choose to join the US or the German faction.
Once I have chosen to play either Germans or US, will I then be able to switch sides?

Once you have chosen a side, your game account will be locked to that faction for the remainder of the war. When the war has been concluded and one faction stands victorious, a new war will begin. You can then choose to remain on the same faction, or switch to the other one.
How long will a “war” take?

It is difficult to say, since there will be so many factors to take into consideration. We roughly estimate that a war will take around 4-6 weeks (in real life), but it is primarily decided by the generals’ tactics, and the soldiers who fight the actual battles, how long the campaign through Europe will take. We will listen to our community, and continuously adjust the game to reflect how you want to play the game.

Will there be more factions?

We hope to implement more factions, but for now, our full attention has been put into developing the US and Germans.

Will there be others theater of war, e.g. Africa, Pacific?

We hope to implement more theaters of war over time. However, when the game is released, it will not be a final and ‘closed’ product. We intend to continuously implement more content in the European Campaign, before switching our focus to other parts of the globe.

Will Heroes & Generals only be for “Hardcore” gamers?

Absolutely not! Heroes & Generals will provide you with several options on how to play the game. You can for instance just log-in and play an action mission or two, or spend your whole Sunday in front of your computer commanding your troops around Europe, and be the ‘General’ to decide the outcome of the war. The choice is yours!

Will there be both Singleplayer and Multiplayer versions of Heroes & Generals?

You could say that. Heroes & Generals is developed as an online multi-player game, although we’re currently working on creating online Singleplayer missions that will affect the Campaign. And we won’t rule out Co-op missions where you and a group of friends are playing against or alongside AI – still as a part of the Campaign.

What will Heroes & Generals cost?

Heroes & Generals will use the Free2Play model. We wish to create a healthy, solid and well-balanced game and community, where you can get a great experience playing the game, no matter how much money you spend! There is an in-game economy, where you earn in-game credits for being active in the game, by playing FPS-missions and/or handling Assault Teams.

These credits can be used for personal stuff like buying characters, additional characters slots, specializing/customizing your characters and modifying weapons.

But you can also use the credits for team-based stuff, like buying Assault Teams, additional Assault Team slots, specializing/customizing Assault Teams and modifying vehicles. All credits spent on Assault Teams gives benefits to other players as well as yourself. We strive to make a balanced design in all the game-influencing items. One example is the Weapon Modification system: All weapon modifiers are balanced, so that you may choose to increase, for instance, precision for a weapon, but at the cost of decreasing, for instance, range. This means that you’ll not be able to get one golden super-weapon which is just better than all other weapons, but instead you’ll have an extremely specialized weapon, which is really good at certain things. We will give you the option of buying “gold credits”, which can be converted to in-game credits, so you have the option of saving time and don’t need to grind that much. We also offer a Premium Subscription to accommodate wishes of having an all-inclusive package, where you earn in-game credits at an increased rate, all your characters can wear two combat badges instead of one, you earn combat ribbons and badges faster, and more!

How will the game be released (retail, digitally)?

The game will be released digitally through our website: www.heroesandgenerals.com

Who is developing Heroes & Generals?

Our studio is called Reto-Moto and was originally founded in 1997 and quickly transformed into IO Interactive, which went on to release Hitman and Freedom Fighters. We’re approx. 30 fulltime developers and administrative personnel working on Heroes & Generals.

In 2004 IO Interactive was sold to Eidos, however the founding members of Reto-Moto left Eidos and reformed their old company, bringing in some of the core developers from IO Interactive. Heroes & Generals is the first game from Reto-Moto.
